For me, Crisis Brownies are the epitome of comfort food.
I coined the term a few years ago when talking with some friends and family about these brownies I make when some stupid life situation reaches critical mass. Unrestrained comfort eating aside, sometimes some situations call for the deepest, darkest, fudgiest most chocolatey brownies you can imagine.
These are them, Crisis Brownies.
It's not merely the end result, and gorging on a pan of warm brownies while sitting on the kitchen floor in a heap of tears and trembling with rage - though I'll admit I've been there before - for me, it is also the process that helps me. I call it Cooking as Therapy. If it takes longer and is a more involved process, all the better. I can throw myself into something that requires careful attention and focus, it is almost a meditative exercise.
Plus, at the end, I have fudgy brownies, it is totally a win-win situation.
